Obesity - A Practical Solution

I have chosen an issue which like "global warming" has become a global problem as well, i.e. obesity. Protruding tummies and bulky bodies serve as an invitation for diseases like joint pains (especially in knees, heels & ankles) as well as seriously life threatening diseases. However, to address this problem, we should be aware of that our line of action should contain qualities like patience, perseverance and (most importantly) a psychological agreement with both. Feel a bit put off ??? Well, let me explain what I mean.

Lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks !!! Sorry such slogans never appealed to me nor did I ever felt motivated to give them a try. Same goes for crash diets, referred by some as yo-yo diets. Do these things work? Well, yes and no.

A crashed diet will certainly help you lose weight quickly but do tell me honestly, once you are done with crash diet, then what? Of course when you are done with ingredients you ate during crash diet duration you will revert back to normal things, thus inadvertently allowing your body to gain lost bulkiness. Hence, the term yo-yo diet !!!

Skipping meals is even more unadvised than crash diet as it will not only make you physically weak but also impact on your mood in a negative way.

Use weight reducing pills??? A big, huge, colossal NOOOOO!!!. So what should I do?

Well, understand this first, we need to bring our minds in unison with our aim of getting rid of obesity. Let's be honest, for most of us dieting comes across as something where we need to make significant sacrifices on quality and quantity of food and psychologically this fear very quickly evaporates whatever interest or motivation we have for our weight reduction plans because nobody likes to live with a feeling of starvation. Hence, tell yourself that losing weight is possible, I don't have to fight hunger pangs day in & day out just to reduce my belly, attaining desired weight is within my grasp, I am willing to achieve it patiently & with steadfastness and once you are done with making these commitments to yourself, do the following:

Being a 3 meals a day guy myself I would recommend to start with a healthy & quantity-wise ideal to your normal intake breakfast because it serves as a fuel on which you get-by for the most busiest part of your day (especially if you are a working professional).

Now for other two meals, lunch and dinner, apply the concept of diet balancing. Remember, we don't become bulky or trim overnight. Its the accumulation or dissipation of fat - over a period of time - that impacts our bodies, positively or negatively.

Speaking of diet balancing, how about eating fruits to your heart's content. Especially fresh and related to that season fruits which are considered best for whatever natural benefits they contain. For dinner, how about fresh vegetable salads, again, to your heart's content, fresh and season related.

To add an extra motivation for yourself, how about goggling the Internet with a simple query like for example apple benefits or cucumber benefits (replace apple, cucumber with any fruit, vegetable of your choice). This will help you determine the quantity of a particular fruit or vegetable for your average lunch or dinner.

Along-with above a little change in daily eating habits is also advisable, like:
  • Either replace milk tea with green tea completely or at-least reduce the number of (milk tea) cups to half.
  • If sugar based items are close to your heart than either reduce their daily intake by half or opt / prepare things using artificial sweeteners.
  • Seriously revisit the habit of junk food consumption as although, items like french fries, burgers, soft drinks, milk shakes etc attract us like magnets but if eaten regularly, they increase our weight on the double as well. Recommended intake of junk food is just once a week.
  • Walk for about (at-least) 20 minutes daily.  
Lastly, a proper usage of this approach will enable you to lose weight gradually (close to 1kg per week). Of course, to change monotony, you can forgo your fruit based lunch on Sundays to enjoy a lavish meal with your entire family. Have an enjoyable journey towards your destination of attaining trim and smart body.
